I've been swamped with papers. Probably ten years worth, all scattered in drawers, boxes, and tucked into corners of the house. My goal? To turn this mountain of paper into a cohesive, organized filing system. Hmm, let's see. I can tell you that I've been at this for about a week now, and I have shut down the shredder numerous times due to overheating. Goodness. I've taken out bag after bag of papers and shreddings to the garbage. Shreddings.... is that even a word? What do you call the tiny little pieces of paper that the shredder makes?
So originally, I thought I could get all this paperwork done before I went back to work. Maybe even start cleaning around the house a little. You know, in my spare time.
Yea. I know. A girl can dream, can't she?
I start back to work in a week. And I'm tired. So, so tired. I'm hoping that being around the kids will give me a much needed spark. And hugs. Lots and lots of hugs. I work with special needs children, mostly kindergarten and first graders, and there are a few that love hugs. This year we will have 12 in the classroom. Lots more than last year. Lots to keep me busy at work. Luckily, we are pretty relaxed the first few weeks of school. We're pretty protective of our kids, and those first few weeks we do lots of bonding, so they know they are safe and loved, and that school is fun.
Special kids are..... Special. There's no other word for them. I thank God for each and every day they are in my life.

You can do it! I have faith in you. On the other hand, I shredded and tossed genealogy papers for about three weeks, and I can't see that I've even made a dent in all the paperwork! So if you find you can't get it done right away, you're not alone.
ReplyDeleteHugs from little ones can work miracles..
Nice to know I'm not alone!

Dear Lori, I have had my share of shredding papers, so I know what you are going through! What I can say is just take your time, when you feel for it. Don't rush... you deserve some relaxing days before you go back to work.
ReplyDeleteHugs are important and you are fortunate to be surrounded by your special kids.
Hugs from me...
A relaxing day sounds good. My girlfriend has been asking if I would come to her house. There are things that she has done that I want to see. I think you're right.... Now I will go email here! Thanks for all the extra hugs!

Lori: I love shredding all my yucky paperwork! I feed it to my worms! We started school last Wednesday...what a relief...I so missed "my kids"! Yes, you must go visit with your friend, I love my "me" time. Take Care...and a special hug to you.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking I should save the bags for this Fall when I get back to my garden and make the beds back to normal. Good idea!

ReplyDeleteLori, We use this system. Yeah, it takes time to actually do the filing, but the what to keep and for how long part is done for you. Yeah it costs $25, but the file tabs do most of the thinking for you - less stress. We managed to get our paper records scattered drawers and boxes down to one file cabinet. I can find the stuff hubby files, how great is that. Give the shredder plenty of breaks, we almost burned ours out. "Spare time" is really "make time", but paper doesn't spoil so go at a reasonable pace.
Hugs are good. All those smiling faces will be refreshing.
Jerilyn
I checked that out, and the part of what to keep and for how long is what I really like! Thanks for the info.
DeleteI like your words, "paper doesn't spoil" I will remember that!

What I do when I have lots of shredding is to pile it by the shredder and then feed some and go do something else for a few minutes, then shred, then something else. I have also found that lubricating the shredder with the bottle lubricant from Staples (Dad's favorite store!!!) makes the shredder last longer and not hang up as much. You go girl. Don't think of it as shredding think of it as making compost!!!
ReplyDeleteSee you soon.
Love,Linda
Does that mean we need to take Dad for another Staples run?? Then lunch afterwards? Ha ha. Ok, it looks like I should be making compost/worm lunch with all my shreddings!

Hey, just a quick note. Lunch should be at Linda's downtown, not IHOP, mkay?

I'm betting going back to work and getting all those heartfelt hugs will signal another move-ahead step in your journey. Oh my word, if only all Special Education teachers felt the way about those special little ones as you do. Talk about making a difference in lives . . . you're doing it!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's another step on a very long road. You know, I can't think of another thing I would rather be doing now, other than work in our class. I'm loving this age, they are so sweet (mostly!) and love life, school, and us! Now I just hope the California education system doesn't tank too much more, or I'll be going back to school myself!

You have one of the nicest and most special jobs ever, Lori! Taking care of the special ones can be very inspiring, right? You’re doing a great job! Anyway, about your shredding problem, you can actually hire a shredding agency to take care of your unused documents. Or you can avail of document shredding software. That way, you will never have a hard time dealing with those documents, and you will have more time to spend with your kids. =)

Ask for those hugs, sweetie. This is a hard time and you will get through it. I sense that you are a strong person and that life will continue on, in a good way, because of this strength.
ReplyDeleteTake time, when you need it. Get lots of rest and don't try to do too much. Let those "special" kids give you all the love that they can. They know more about feelings than we ever give them credit for.
Take care.
Hi there dear sister in law...a little birdie tells me that you need to do an update, a little show and tell? Come on you know you wanna...I know you do...
ReplyDeleteYeah, yeah, I love you, too!
