Harvest Monday - May 30

Well! I'm back! Time flies, and I've just been living life, trying my best to take care of family, the yard, the critters, and doing my thing at work. It keeps me more than busy.
But, enough of that. This is a Harvest Monday post, and I'd like to show you my harvest for the week. The first picture..... green stuff. And lots of it! Mostly lettuce and peas. Actually, mostly lettuce. This is just a portion of what I picked, and a smaller portion of what's out there still. I think it's spring's version of zucchini!

And....... Ta Da! Potatoes! I've never grown potatoes before, and was not expecting any quite so soon. Half of my plants have died, and I thought they were supposed to go way longer into the summer, and flower first, although actually maybe they are and I just got lucky to get any. I'm not complaining either way. I didn't pick the blue ones, since the plants haven't turned brown yet, so I can look forward to more. These are the last of the cherries. We don't remember what kind they are, but they sure have been good. The brown eggs next to the cherries?? Those are from my young chickens! They started laying a few weeks ago, and their eggs are just so cute. They're about 2/3 the size of the green eggs from our old hens, but just as beautiful as they can be! I'm real excited to have them laying.

Totals for the week:
lettuce: 3.1 lbs
peas: 2 lbs
zucchini: .4 lbs
potatoes: 10.8 lbs
cherries: 2.75 lbs
cabbage: 3 lbs

Harvest Monday is a day to show off your harvests, how you are saving your harvest, or how you are using your harvest. Would you like to see more?
Go to Daphne's place and check out all the things other folks are getting this week.

  4. Sue, I've been able to start soooo early this year! Last year, hubby built me raised beds, and now I don't have to wait so long for the garden to dry out. I'm a happy girl!
Bee Girl, our cherry tree had been neglected for too long. Hubby pruned it good this year, and it has just taken off!
    Allison, thanks!
Malay, thanks! I haven't decided what kind of salad to make with the cabbage yet, and the zucchini will go into a stir fry in the next day or two.

  8. fgk, thanks! We have 2 older hens and a rooster that are 2 years old. Our youngsters are just about 6 months, I think. They were given to me since we like chickens and they needed a good home. That batch has 3 hens and a rooster.
kitsap, boy have we ever been eating good! Lots of salads, and usually veggie scrambles each weekend. It's been yummy!

  14. Yes I agree lettuce is definitely the zucchini of springtime. A lot of mine will bolt because I only pick enough for us to eat. I leave the rest out there. But I'm putting in a succession planting at the end of the week so I have to get some of those plants removed. Way, way too much lettuce.

  19. Wow, what a spectacular harvest so early in the season. It's hard to believe that we live in the same country when you can harvest things now that take until August to mature in our neck of the woods. Don't those early potatoes taste just wonderful? And your cherries! I'm so envious of your cherries! Enjoy.

  21. Mama Pea, isn't it amazing what a difference our climate is? I really like getting a harvest so early, but I'd sure take a few of your cool nights in the hot part of summer. I don't mind the blistering hot days so much if it just cools off at night. Our potatoes and cherries were wonderful!

Astrid, thank you! It's great being able to eat what we grow.
