Our Old Girl

Here's Sierra. She's a sweetheart. When she was younger, she would chase anything that moved. Shadows, birds, reflections, dragonflies, and little red pointer lights. Sierra has given us almost 16 years of entertainment. For years, I would look out the window and watch her jump in the pasture when the dragonflies were swarming, or run after the shadows the birds made flitting back and forth from one tree to another. She still greets us when we come home, although now much slower to get up, of course. Sierra loved to run out front when somebody drove up. No, not necessarily to the car, although she was excited to see us. You see, on sunny days, the side mirror made a reflection that was just her height on the house. So, she would run up to the house, and wait until the driver opened the car door. She gave herself more than a couple scratches on her muzzle in her excitement to bite the reflection! So now, years later, here she is, much slower, older, and alot grayer, but still our sweetheart!

  1. What a cutie. Dogs bring so much into our lives. I miss having one around.......but we are still enjoying our "spur-of-the-moment" trips and aren't ready to commit again--just yet.
I'm fortunate to have a few neighbors that let me "borrow" their dogs when I want.

  2. Wow! 15+ years. Amazing! I wish our pups had longer life spans. 15 years goes by in a flash doesn't it? Give her lot of sweet puppy kisses!

  3. She looks sweet Lori. We are dealing with our "older dog", her health is failing. She is only 12, but not sure how much longer she will be with us. She has given us much joy these 12 years and has gone a lot of miles with us as we have moved 4 times with her and gone on many vacations where she was allowed to go. They are sweet little creatures that bring such fun and joy.

  5. Comin' up on sixteen! Wow. She's had lots of loving and good care in here life obviously. Our Zoey will be 14 in March (here all this last year I was thinking she was just going to be 13 -- duh) and is starting to show signs of aging. It's almost like they change into another dog when they finally lose that puppy-ness and energy they've always had. Even though they take a little extra care now, we're still all willing to do whatever needs to be done, aren't we? Sierra's still a pretty girl!

  6. Sue, I don't know what I'd do without our furry friends. Glad you have dog friends so close!

tami, yeah, we never expected her to live this long. Seems like just yesterday she was jumping and running.

Lorie, I hope you get more miles and smiles with your sweet dog!

Granny, I've been giving her a little extra love lately!

Mama Pea, it seems like our girl was a pup one day, and an old girl the next. Where did it all go? Yes, I'm quite happy to give her the extra TLC she needs now. :)

  7. I'm such a softy when it comes to animals. Tears in my eyes just to read about her. Sierra is such a beauty! She looks a bit like our Sasha. We have two dogs and a cat - love and spoil them to pieces!
