Harvest Monday, February 28, 2011

My edible harvest this week was..... nada. Bumpkiss. A big goose egg. Zip. But, I did get a non-edible harvest! This week my beer traps and I got ........ drum roll please..... 115 slugs. Yes, folks that was 115!
Would you like to see what sort of harvest other people are getting? Hop on over to Daphne's place. I'll bet they're getting something more than slugs over there!

  1. 115 slugs, yuck! Did you give them to the chickens? I'm not sure what would be worse, a slug population like yours or the rats and other rodents that like to snack in my garden.

  2. That is powerful beer that your hubby provided. Just think that now the slugs will have little AA meetings before they feast on your garden. How wild is that. Love your posts.

  3. MMMMmm mmmmm good.

Blech! Better in the beer than in the garden!

  4. michelle, the chickens didn't get them. Not sure yet that I want them eating something marinaded in beer. Would that hurt them?? I would rather have the slug problem here than the rat/rodent problem you have. That would be worse, no contest!

Linda, Ha! Haven't seen any signs of slug meetings in the garden. I'm way happy I've discovered something to put in the garden that won't hurt the cats or Dozer.

Barbie, blech is right! I like how they congregate in the beer, then all I have to do is wait, count, and dispose. Easy! Then they will turn into compost!

  8. 115 slugs. Ugh. 'Nough to keep me from having an over-zealous appetite for breakfast!

Seriously, I think you could count the slugs as a really good harvest because eliminating them will give you much more of a harvest later. How's that for looking on the optimistic side?

  9. Ick! I've never gotten beer traps to work. I always just hunt them in the evening or morning. I so hate slugs.

  11. Robin, thanks! I'm not real crazy about them either.

    Melissa, thanks!

Lena, it is, huh?? And they're even slimier (is that even a word??) after marinading for a day or two.

MP, yeah, after I count them, I'm not real hungry. I'm also hoping my new transplants don't get eaten up after I put them out.

Daphne, funny, but I've never been successful with just hunting them! Whatever works is the important thing.

Becca, I am! Well, pretty much. I was bummed when my very first lettuce got eaten in a matter of nights. That was in January, I think. I'll be putting more out this weekend, hopefully with different results.
