Harvest Monday, July 5th

It's Harvest Monday at Daphne's place! This week I picked:
summer squash, tomatoes, basil, and ........ my first mild salsa peppers! Wahoo! (Happy dance!)

My glads are coming on nicely. I picked a bouquet this morning to bring into the kitchen next to the sink. These are the only glads I picked this week. I like to leave lots in the flower bed, because it's right outside the bedroom window, and when I get up every morning, I look outside and the first thing I see are flowers!

The hydrangeas are plugging along. Such a funny little flower. They're beautiful in their own special way. I can totally relate to them. These will go on the dining room table.

This is a stump. Well, actually, it's a log. From one of our eucalyptus trees we cut down on Friday. That would count for Harvest Monday, wouldn't it? We went to a potluck yesterday at a friend's house, and this is what we brought. Honest and true! Fits nicely in the fancy-schmancy car, don't you think?

And we also brought a big plate of these frosted zucchini bars. (We're not total hicks!)

Grandma's chocolate zucchini cake came along for the ride, too. I forgot to take a picture of it before, so this is the after picture. It was really good.

And last but certainly not least, Dozer would like to add his piece to this Harvest Monday post. He hadn't been allowed to roam around in the garden all week, until today. While my back was turned, he made his own personal harvest. He was a little bummed when I didn't let him finish it, but I think he's gotten over it now.

  1. What a beautiful basket of veggies! I think that you should weigh that "little" stump in for Harvest Monday :)

  2. I love seeing you pictures of your veggies! Dozer has good taste, just a little early or he wants some fried green tomatoes!

  3. Robin, great idea! I wonder how I would do that? Do you think it would count???

Becca, thanks, glad you get enjoyment out of it. Dozer would probably eat tomatoes however I fixed them. The only thing we've found that he won't eat is olives. Funny he's never had garbage gut!

  5. Beautiful harvest! I’m still waiting for my tomatoes to turn red.
We are using our car in the same way and always have some cardboard to put on the bottom so it doesn’t get dirty.

  7. Robin, Thanks! Yeah, that would be interesting to find out how hefty that little harvest was. It took hubby and our youngest to lift it into the car.

Becca, glad you enjoy my garden. Dozer was really on my list for picking his own!

Astrid, getting my veggies really makes me feel great. Yeah, the only problem with Dozer harvesting is that he's pretty much determined not to share! The zucchini bars were really good, I'll have to make a post on some of the things I make with zucchini.

  8. Lori, what a colorful harvest basket you got there. About that stump (or log)... I think you should only weigh it if you're going to eat it. That's only fair, right?? ;-)

  9. thyme2garden, yes, I think you're right. I might be cooking and heating with our wood, but I definitely won't be eating it! This week I'll try to start weighing my stuff, though. I see other folks doing that, and it's amazing how much it can add up to.
